You Would Swear There's Amusement in the Eyes of the Dead

Indeed, too much time has passed since the last post. Frankly, this is due to an overwhelming amount of splendour and amazement. Since the release of Self this November, times have flown by.

The release itself brought everything we could have desired. A packed house, amazing and intense sets by Nefast, Laster and Gnaw Their Tongues (as expected) and an overall feeling that this was the best night of our lives.

Following the release, we played a messy but highly enjoyable set in the depths of night in Leeuwarden. After stunning sets by (a.o.) our old friends Ophis and The Great Old Ones, we spent the rest of the night talking about metal, life and beers, and were surprised to find out the old men in Kampfar could still hold their drinks!

But then things started rolling, and thus, updating become more difficult.

First of all, we were asked to play Eurosonic Noorderslag. This is  huge festival which swallows Groningen during the second week of January. This a booker's festival, where the organisation chooses young (ha!) and promising (huh?) bands to present themselves to international, but primarily Dutch, bookers. We were quite stunned that they'd ask us, since we are the loudest band playing that festival, by far. But then we were told how Amenra and Textures played there, and so we feel less weirded out. But only slightly so.

Then we were asked to play a weekender with our friends in Dragged Into Sunlight, who are touring together with the aforementioned Gnaw Their Tongues to celebrate their joint release N.V., which is surely the most horrid and deprived release of 2015.

On Saturday the 13th of February we will play Het Bos in Antwerp (BE), courtesy of the amazing people of Ondergronds, who we've worked with before. On Sunday the 14th we will be playing at Patronaat. On the first show, we are joined by our buddies of Laster again, who will release an amazing split-recording early 2016, but who have already recorded their new record as well. Expect a completely new set by them.

Besides that, the overall reviews have been amazing. The two negatives we have picked up both stated the same: "TOO INTENSE I CAN'T HANDLE THIS". Excellent. The tapes are down to the last 10 at the label, we've run out of them. LPs and CDs are dwindling fast as well.

2016 will bring amazing shows, huge plans and new tracks. Thanks to all of you for making 2015 a year that far surpassed our expectations.

There are people that need us, people that need things that we know

We are proud to announce our performance at the inestimable Roadburn Festival next year. Tickets are on sale now, and going quickly as ever. We will play the 013 venue, alongside dozens of bands we admire and love, such as Misþyrming, Neurosis and Oranssi Pazuzu. As taken from the Roadburn site:

"Distinguishing themselves by pairing the rage of black metal with a cathartic destruction, as well as heavy dose of poetic – sometimes crawling -melancholy, Terzij de Horde are part of a thriving Dutch underground scene, also inhabited by Urfaust,Nihill and Dodecahedron among others.

At the same time, our release of 'Self' was announced as well. We have been given the opportunity by Le Guess Who? festival to curate an evening of Dutch darkness. As such, we have invited those band to whom we feel connected in darkness and light.

We will be joined by Gnaw Their Tongues, a musical entity of unparalleled darkness and the flagship project of the insanely prolific Mories (Aderlating, De Magia Veterum, Seirom, Cloak of Altering…). With each release, Gnaw Their Tongues has invoked new realms of doom/black/industrial horror.

Describing themselves as ‘obscure dance music’, Laster play a strand of black metal that is deeply haunting and hypnotic. Listening to new album, ‘de Verste Verte is Hier’ instills a vertiginous sense of void and night, which is contrasted with a desperate drive to affirm and embrace.

Nefast will open the night. Ominous chants crash into raging despair, sanguineous rhythms lure the listener into the abyss, the spectre of death has never been dissected so thoroughly. If the moons are aligned, their second outing 'Discomfort' will be available on the 20th as well.

We are proud and honoured to be able to do this. Join us then.

The Impending Winter

This week brought two moments of pride, and two harbingers of greater entities.

First, Kim Kelly of Noisey and bad meme fame discussed our opening track, and the first streamable track of 'Self', Absence. And she is positive: " [Terzij de Horde] have distinguished themselves by dint of a captivating, layered sound that blasts a black metal core with fragments of noise and heavy doses of melancholia. It is poetic, cerebral music that channels aggression and catharsis into something fruitful."

Besides that, the first show in support of 'Self' has been announced, we will share the stage of Into Darkness II with our good friends of The Great Old Ones, Gg:ull and Dystopia, as well as Nightbringer and Naglfar, the 28th of November in Leeuwarden.

The album focuses on the problem of self. Six tracks explore different ways to live, or fail to live, with self and world. They embody the struggles these paths and strategies create: blindness, suffering, a desire for release, the destruction of self and others as well as the turning towards -or away from- life.

Self as prison, self as a source of power, self as vessel for manipulation by outside forces, self as shield and as inner world, self as medium for Dionysian rapture, self as something to be overcome.

In the six songs that constitute ‘Self’, the rage of black metal is paired with a cathartic destruction as well as a contemplative, sometimes crawling melancholy. Instead of navel gazing or the worship of constructs, ‘Self’ is analysis forced. A cerebral celebration of liberation at all costs and a requiem for spheres rendered apart.

‘Self’ is a collaborative effort, as Burning World Records (gatefold lp), Consouling Sounds (cd) and Tartarus Records (cassette) will each be releasing it on their preferred formats in October.The record has been recorded and mixed at Studio Independent Recordings and mastered by James Plotkin.

The artwork of ‘Self’ depicts ants, consumed by Ophiocordyceps. These parasitic fungi appropriate the brains of whichever host they infect, to manipulate and effectively destroy its self-regulating features. Through this annexation, the ants become empty shells of what they once were, governed by a destruction from within, imposed and irreconcilable.

Ik erken maar éen wet: léven.

 The 21st of June, the Summer solstice, the longest day. The perennial return of darkness.

75 years ago, vitalistic poet Hendrik Marsman lost his life, fleeing imposed rule and nascent gloom, trying to cling to life while there still was a chance. This clasping to life, wringing every single drop from it, making every passing moment a testament of existence, resonates strongly with us as a band.

Proudly, we present the first ever published collection of translated poems by Marsman. A Crooked Flower in Cosmos' Flailing Mouth holds 14 poems, most of them written in the 1920's, when Marsman was trying to fight himself free from church and societal expectations.

These English translations have been done by the band themselves, and have been checked by professional translator Bram van IJperen to ensure both consistency and a full grasp of implied meaning.

This is what encompasses Terzij de Horde: a raging desire to live, a longing for knowledge, a passion shared.

A Crooked Flower in Cosmos' Flailing Mouth

Hendrik Marsman wrote gut-wrenching, harrowing poetry, a dark vitalism at the basis, vibrant and volatile. Because most of his poetry was never translated, most people have never had the chance to read his work; we want to change that.

We created a book, A Crooked Flower in Cosmos' Flailing Mouth, and a track, Wacht - Lex Barbarorum, which are now for sale. This is both to commemorate his death, 75 years ago this year, but also to embrace his momentous drive to live. The book features translations of the 14 poems we consider the most fitting to our ideas as Terzij de Horde. Not coincidentally, these are our favourite poems too.

 The amazing artwork featured in this work is by Unknown Relic - The Artwork of Stephen Wilson.

No Flesh Around The Heart

A last-minute addition to an amazing month of playing shows.

Next Sunday, the 9th, we will be sharing the stage with Winterfylleth. When we played our first show in the UK, many aeons ago, they came to see us, and we talked about playing together somewhere along the line. So as they released full-length after full-length, we continued doing what we always do. And now, finally, we can play together! We will be joined by Saille, who will release their album on this tour with Winterfylleth, and our friends of Black Decades.

Filth in the Light

Last August, we played our first shows after a year of silence. We want to thank Laster and Slakkengang for a healthy return. As we slowly crawl to the end of the last song before we enter the studio, we have been asked for three shows at the end of November.

On Friday the 21st, we will salute the passing of Mondvolland in Arnhem.

Saturday the 22nd, we will play our first Belgian show in a church in the center of Antwerp. Safe to say, we are curious.

We will be joined by amazing Belgian newcomers Drawn into Descent , up-and-coming blackmetalincrowdfest Wiegedood and Southern Lord favourites Hessian

Sunday the 23rd, we will round the tour up with a show in one of our favourite venues in the Netherlands, De Onderbroek. The last time we played there, we were still called Liar Liar Cross On Fire and 3/5th of the current band played in far worse bands. We will play with Deer in the Headlights, who are a Bosnian screamo band with an intensity and rage not unlike ours.

During this tour, at least two new songs will be performed, possibly three, and we will bring the last 12"s of the EP with us. 

Regarding the split 10"s, the first three installments of Elemental Nightmares have been released according to plan, and they sound amazing. This will also mean that our release will see the light of day December 25th. Hail Mithras. 

My Spine Will Be My Noose

As mentioned last time, we will be performing in Tilburg on Saterday the 30th. Joining us will be Slakkengang, a noise/black duo that has been working its way through the scene. They will play a 15-minute set, but that will be more than enough.

During this show, we will finally play two new songs, one of which, 'Absence', has been the bane of this band for over two years. As said before, we are slow and picky writers.

Later this year, recording will take place, but it feels good to mention that we will have one release out this year anyway. We are part of the Elemental Nightmares 10"-series, with bands and friends like Mondvolland, Wildernessking and VUYVR. On Mithras' day, our four-way split with Hyperial, Parasitized and Waning will be released. The song on this 10" is a one-off, and it will never be released again in any form. You can still sign-up for this compilation, which has stunning artwork. Every 10" will feature 1/7th of a huge, encompassing piece of craft. The first one has already been released, with Wildernessking and Oak Pantheon, a.o. Especially those two songs are worth the listen. Check Elemental Nightmare's bandcamp.

Temptation V - Neglect

For the past six months, we have been rehearsing, writing and overall thinking about what will happen.

At the end of this month, we will play our first show in a year's time.

It is a reacquaintance, a welcoming and an introduction of new members and new material. Two new songs will be performed. We are joined by our friends of Laster, the latest addition to the Utrecht-roster of black metal occultists.

Adding to that, we are saluting the works of Mondvolland and their farewell in Arnhem the 21st of November. They were the Dutch equivalent of Winterfylleth, but with better records overall.

Denial of the Species

It has been a long time.

Our brother Stefan has left the band due to health reasons. It pains us all, but we all know as well that this was the only possible outcome. Below is his farewell.

Hey all. Let me take this opportunity to let you all know that, with both sadness and relief, I have decided to quit my guitar activities for the band.
The reasons for this are diverse. Some of you might know that these last few years have not been the easiest for me, and though I'm doing quite OK now, it has left an imprint. Therefore a full on rehearsing/recording/touring outfit is simply not made for me anymore. A heavy hearted feeling that's been itching for a while and I simpy have to step up and face it.
An other equally important reason is a desire in me to channel my thoughts and feelings into productive within the realm of other musical genres (than Metal/Hardcore).
So no, you're not rid of me yet! In fact, I already have been invited for several projects and this year I will focus on getting a solo project called Lantern Slides more running. Next to that there is talk of ending the hiatus of my former band Osewoudt.

Is this the end of TDH? Of course not! In fact a follow up for me might be lurking around the corner sooner than you can say 'a rage of rapture against the dying of the light'. So work on the full length will continue!

So let me sign off with a great big heartfelt !thank you! to all the people that booked us a show, drove our van, recorded with us, shared a stage with us, released our vinyl, did our live sound, offered us a place to sleep, anything that helped us out and of course those that bought the records/merch and banged hard at the live shows. You know who you are and I certainly am glad I do, too.

Finally of course a big warm hug and a smoky whisky to Johan, Joost, Richard and Demian, the brothers in arms that took part in the realisation of some of my dreams.

When we started looking for replacements, or actually, someone to bring his or her personality, way of thinking and playing style to the band, hardly a name popped up. Yet, we found a kindred spirit

Jelle A., of Nihill fame, has joined Terzij de Horde. He will be writing along and playing on our full-length, the eternal white whale. But Ahab's gaining. 

We have a couple of shows coming up, alongside Planks in Germany and with Wildernessking as these South-African friends tour the continent. As soon as more info is present, we will inform you.

I See No Civilization

This is the first show we'll announce for the coming months, more will follow soon. But as a start, this is pretty okay. Right?

In three weeks, we'll have played with the band responsible for the best "Cascadian black metal"-song ever.
YES I SAID IT.

Due to an amazing weekend on the road with the new Dutch metal pride VERBUM VERUS and the astounding Svartidauði, no new songs can be shared, but over the course of the next months the full-length will worked on.
The day before, we'll have the same line-up, minus us, plus Grinding Halt, Dutch down-tuned sludge-blasts, old and dirty like the men they are, and the first ever show of Black Decades, a band consisting of ex-Cathode, the Barnhouse Effect and Staathaat-members, who combine these three bands with the fury and darkness of bands like Mitochondrion.

Looking forward to these shows, I hope to see you there.

Oxex Dazis Sastris

I know it has been too long.
We have toured the UK with our friends from The Great Old Ones which was an absolute blast (judging from the reviews in Metal Hammer, Terrorizer and amazing blogs). A huge thanks to the LURKERlads, to Sam of CLDH and Paul Priest, all of them are worthy of your money, booze and tips on proper music.
One of the reasons it took so long is the amount of time we could spend on writing new material. We had been writing on one of the songs for a year approximately, when a bunch of amazing shows came up. Getting back to the drawingboard is difficult then. BUT the new songs are suddenly appearing, and I fell it's safe to say that this year will finally be the year that new releases will be recorded.
At this point, the full-length is the focal point, but we have a split 7" in the works as well.
Because of the amount of shows of lately and the desire to write new material, we have decided to play an absolute minimum of shows before the summer, being a show with Ash Borer and Fell Voices in Amsterdam, and a tentative show with Sadhaka (members of Fauna) in Groningen.
If you want to celebrate the tenth edition of Footprints in the Void with us, you're more than welcome on Saturday the 30th of March. Five amazing bands, a special edition beer and a celebration of kindred spirits.

Coughing the Blood of Hope and Love

It has been a while. We have been busy getting married and saving Africa.

The split with Starve was released, finally, and we have no clue as to how many have been sold. Email badgerrecords@hotmail.com to see if he has any clear vinyl left.

We have a couple of black ones left, but still need to add them to our bigcartel/bandcamp. If you want one, email us. They're €12,-, if you'd like a shirt as well, we can arrange a package deal.

We are touring the UK in January with our French labelmates The Great Old Ones. Two dates haven't been filled yet, but the 7th is being finalised this weekend, the 8th would be a bonus on the way back. If you can help us out along the way, let us know.

Besides our buddies, we are stoked beyond belief to be sharing the stage withWode, and the other bands, what we could find, sound very promising indeed. I hope they have beards.

For the tour, new shirts will be pressed. The old ones (they're great) we still have are running really low, except for the ones in size S. Skinny people, emo kids, hipsters, help us out!

New record is really in the making now, a couple of friends will help us out along the way, the tentative name for the record is "Self". But nothing is certain yet. Hopefully, we can post some new recordings soon.

Take As Needed For Pain

THERE IS POSITIVE NEWS.

Three weeks ago we received the test-pressings of the 12" with Starve. We heartily approved them (the sound is so much better when compared to the mp3). GO AND PRINT.

Well, no.

But now, all the artwork problems have been resolved and today we got an email, telling us that they'll be shipped the 29th of August!

There are 250 black LPs and 50 crystal-meth, pre-orders have started via badger_records@hotmail.com, but as soon as there are records proper, we will make them obtainable in our bandcamp.

So, we have another release-party to look forward to. But this time, the records will actually be there. And of course, we will have our CRY ME A BADGER FEST 2012 at the ACU. It will take place the 16th of September, a Sunday late afternoon show, and we will be again bejoined by STARVE, our Northern buddies in Ortega and the amazing UK Caveman Battle-Doom heroes of Conan.

As for the rest, we are still looking at an end of the year/start of next year tour with label-buddies The Great Old Ones, so bookers take note. We are mainly looking for shows on the mainland Europe, but the UK is doable too.

New songs are coming up too, we have just started working on what might well be the last song needed for the full-length. As soon as everyone's done holidaying and marrying we will finish this elusive beast.

Bless Them That Curse You

As I said previously, I won't post untill we are certain of the date the record will be released.

I kinda lied. We're STILL not certain, but we're hoping for somewhere in the next few months. For fuck's sake.

To ease the waiting, we have uploaded our song, A Chosen Hollow, for the split to our bandcamp as a pay what you want download. You'll get full artwork, lyrics and lossless song, so worth it.

We were supposed to play a release show in two weeks time. now it's a show filled with friends! The 13th of June, we'll be heading to the ACU again for a show with our friends HAMMERS from Manchester, who are touring their amazing record "Vardøgr" and have kindly pestered the organisers to let us play. Starve are playing too, as are Sloth, a young crustpunk band with a great future if they can learn to start and stop at the same time. But in any way, it's vicious, hyperfast noise that sounds excellent.

Thanks for sticking with us while we wait for a record, the writing for the full-length is drawing to a close, we have some great news when we finish writing, so with a bit of luck you'll be told MARVELS AND WONDERS around December 2016.

Under grey lights and electric skies

It has been a long time, but that has to do with the fact that I hadn't wanted to make a post until I knew for sure that the split recording was on its way.

Still no news.

Erik has told us several dates over the last months, but so far none have delivered, so we'll keep on waiting. As soon as I have a test-pressing, I'll say something more.

We've been writing for the full-length these past months, and even though things are slow, we're moving along! At this point, I'd say we need to write two more songs and we've got a beast of an album. No labels for that yet, but there has been interest. What that essentially means is that friends of us with labels told us they'd love to help us out, so no definitive I'LL DO IT, but at least we're fairly sure that we don't have to pay for the 6x6 feet inverted church origami artwork all by ourselves.

To end it with a little downer, we won't be performing anymore these weeks due to bookers being irresponsive dicks and due to health problems of Stefan. Wish him well.
